What If You Don’t Have The Time To Follow The PX90 Workout?

March 29th, 2012 No comments

One of the problems that people run into when they are thinking about starting the px90 workout is whether or not they are going to have enough time during the day to fit in the workouts. Lets face it, many of us are very busy people and a lot of the workouts in px90 are around 1 hour long, so some people struggle to fit them into their day comfortably.

Depending on how busy your life is, how much you have to cram into your schedule and not forgetting other responsibilities such as looking after children (that in itself can be a full time job!) you may or may not be able to complete the px90 workout properly. It is always best to be realistic about whether or not you can put your all into a workout because in order to see the best results you really need to see it through till the end.

So what if you are one of these people who really doesn’t think they have enough time for all these hour long workouts etc………?

Well luckily for you, Tony Horton (the creator of PX90) has thought about people like you too because he has created a workout especially designed for busy people. This workout is called 10 Minute Trainer.

The 10 Minute Trainer workout is as you would expect designed around workouts that last just 10 minutes each. Now this doesn’t sound like a long time to be able to lose fat, tone up and get more muscular but the workouts are designed in such a way that it could quite possibly be the toughest ten minutes of your life! These workouts are not easy so may not be for a complete beginner but they are very effective and great if you are short on time.

As with a lot of the other workout programs that Tony Horton has come up with this is definitely going to get you in shape and although I have not tried this workout myself (yet!) I have read a lot of good reviews about it.

What Others Are Saying About PX90

January 29th, 2012 No comments

You can read about my thoughts on the PX90 workout here:  My PX90 Review. But as this workout has become so popular there are literally thousands of people who have reviewed it and to save you the time of reading through all of them, I have compiled a list of the most common advantages and disadvantages of the workout.

Advantages

  • Extremely effective workout that is bound to get you into shape
  • Minimal equipment is needed
  • Easy to follow along with the workouts
  • Value for money – As you can do these workouts at home without a wide range of expensive equipment or a gym membership, in terms of effectiveness it is definitely worth the money.
  • You can fit it around your day to day life
  • Not repetitive – The workouts are constantly changing as you progress through the different phases of the program which is great and there is a wide range of stuff such as Yoga, Strength training, Cardio, High/Low impact movements and Flexibility.
  • Great for beginners as well as the more experienced
  • The DVD’s are fun and inspirational
  • It’s easy to track your progress with the work sheets so you know that you are constantly improving
  • Different styles of the workout to meet your particular goals
  • Complete A-Z workout program, no guessing involved

Disadvantages

  • It’s tough – If you are not committed and determined to get into shape then PX90 is not for you
  • Long workouts – Many of the workouts last around an hour and some days you have to do the Ab Ripper as well so it does take up quite a lot of time. But these workouts are done at home so you wouldn’t have the time spent travelling to and from a gym as well, so this isn’t too much of an issue for most people.
  • Expensive supplements – I personally didn’t use the beach body supplements because I get mine from somewhere that has the same type of products but for a considerably lower cost, so this wasn’t really an issue for me.

I hope this will help you to make up your own mind about the PX90 workout. The bottom line is that if you are focused and determined to get into shape and follow the program properly then you are going to see results, but if you are somebody who dosen’t tend to see things through till the end than I don’t think it will be right for you.

Is PX90 Right For You?

January 28th, 2012 No comments

If you have heard about the px90 workout and are thinking about buying it but your not quite sure whether it is going to be the right workout for you then keep reading and find out…

If you have read my review of the px90 workout then you should have a bit of a better understanding about what the workout is about and what you can expect. But there are a couple of qualities that you must possess if you are going to be able to complete the workout.

Determination

Probably the most important thing you need to have if you are going to complete px90 is the determination to finish the program. There is no point starting the program if you are not going to follow it through until the end.

Time

The workout is going to take up a fair amount of your free time, so if you aren’t willing to sacrifice this then px90 won’t be right for you. A lot of the workouts last for an hour which isn’t really too much trouble for people to fit into their day. But this could be a problem for some people so it’s definitely worth taking into consideration.

If you have these two qualities you should be good to go with the px90 workout, but there is also something else which is very important for you to know if you are thinking about starting this workout. This is that px90 is a very intense fitness program and it even has a fitness test that you need to do before you start just to make sure that your going to be ready for the main workout. So if you are in pretty bad shape and don’t have much experience with working out then I would suggest that you start off with the POWER 90 Workout DVDs instead.

The Power 90 workout is a great workout for beginners so if you don’t think that your quite ready for the px90 workout but you still think that you have the determination and time in order to follow a workout through to the end, you should definitely go for the Power 90 workout instead.

So is px90 right for you?

Well if you have the time and determination and have some previous workout experience then yes px90 will be the right workout for you. If you are just lacking a little experience then it will probably not be right for you and I would suggest you go for the Power 90 workout instead. But if you do not have the time and/or determination then I would say do not waste your time or money on either of these fitness programs.

The P90X Nutrition Plan

July 17th, 2011 3 comments

As with any workout program, the nutrition side of things plays a massive part in the P90X workout. If you’re not filling your body with the right fuel then how would you expect it to grow?

There are 3 different phases in the PX90 workout program so lets take a look at them:

  • Phase 1 – The Fat Shredder

In this first phase you are on the least amount of calories out of the three in order to give yourself an initial fat loss boost. Carbohydrates are very limited in this phase and protein is high, this helps to burn fat as well as build muscle. It is designed for shredding fat so if you are somebody that doesn’t have too much fat to lose then you may want to cut this phase short because you may lack energy due to the limited number of carbs.

This phase is split up into 50% Protein 30% Carbohydrates and 20% Fat

  • Phase 2 – The Energy Booster

This phase is a general healthy eating plan that you could continue long term. In the P90X nutrition plan book it even says that you can stick with this instead of going on to phase 3 if you are feeling good, have enough energy and are seeing some good results.

This is split up into 40% Protein 40% Carbohydrates and 20% Fat

  • Phase 3 – Endurance Maximizer

This is a more carbohydrate heavy diet and is similar to what an athlete might eat. Although it says you can skip this phase they do suggest that you try it at some point. Some people tend to stay away from this because of the high amount of carbs but if you are following the whole PX90 program properly then you shouldn’t gain any fat and your energy and endurance levels will go up which means you can train harder and for longer.

This is split up into 20% Protein 60% Carbohydrates and 20% Fat

The nutrition book then goes on to help you to determine how many calories you are going to need and which nutrition level you are at.

There are plenty of recipes in the nutrition plan and if you are a vegetarian then there are some substitutes that you can use in order to get enough protein in your diet.

Something that many people find difficult when following diet plans is actually keeping track of the calories eaten throughout the day. But luckily there are a few ways that can make life easier for you. If you have an iPhone (lets face it most people do these days) then there are a few apps that you can use in order to track your daily calories, a lot of these apps are free but there are also paid ones if you wish to part money for them but to be honest some of the free ones are great and in my opinion there is no point paying for something that you can get for free! If you do not have an iPhone then there are certain websites that effectively do the same job.

The P90X Fitness Guide

A Calender (to keep track of your progress)

What Exactly Is P90X?

Well it is a boot camp style workout program that users can do at home, it involves a variety of different workouts from resistance training and cardiovascular right through to yoga and kenpo karate. The 90 in the name is because it lasts for 90 days but you can do it over and over again if you like because you always right down your progress so you can just keep on improving.

The program is split up into 3 styles: Classic, Doubles and Lean and each of them have 3 different phases. Here is what phase 1 of Classic looks like.

Phase 1 – Weeks 1, 2 and 3

Day 1 – Chest and Back, plus Ab Ripper X

Day 2 – Plyometrics

Day 3 – Shoulders and Arms, Ab Ripper X

Day 4 – Yoga X

Day 5 – Legs and Back, Ab Ripper X

Day 6 – Kenpo X

Day 7 – Rest or X Stretch

Phase 1 – Week 4 (Recovery Week)

Day 1 – Yoga X

Day 2 – Core Synergistics

Day 3 – Kenpo X

Day 4 – X Stretch

Day 5 – Core Synergistics

Day 6 – Yoga X

Day 7 – Rest or X Stretch

PX90 is based on the theory of ‘muscle confusion’ and is supposed to give fast and consistent results by frequently changing workouts and movements and avoiding any plateaus. Hitting these plateaus is something I’ve definitely had trouble with in the past and it does seem to be very effective at pretty much eliminating them.

One of the things I liked most about this workout was the fact that you can do these workouts in the comfort of your own home which means you don’t have to shell out for costly gym memberships. You do need some equipment such as a pull up bar and dumb bells or some resistance bands, a mat and also a heart rate monitor is recommended as well.

The Pro’s

  • Great Workout, does exactly what it claims to do
  • You can do it from home with minimal equipment
  • The program can be adapted to suite your goals
  • It is a complete A-Z program so there is no guess work
  • Lots of happy customers
  • Fantastic on-going support in the forum

The Con’s

  • It is quite challenging so will not suite people who are really out of shape
  • Tony Horton can be a little annoying at times (personal preference I suppose)

The Verdict

All in all P90X is is a fantastic workout program as long as you are willing to commit to it, thousands of people have had great success with this program and for good reason. They should really warn people how extreme it actually is because some people might purchase it, go through the fitness test that you need to do before you start the program fully and realize that they are not ready to go ahead with it.

If you are unsure whether you are fit enough to complete the P90X workout program then I would suggest that you start with the POWER 90 workout first. Click here to take a look at the POWER 90 workout.

Would I recommend this workout?….Absolutely. If your serious about getting into shape then p90x is right for you!

Who Is Tony Horton?

July 12th, 2011 1 comment

PX90 creator Tony HortonTony Horton is a fitness guru who is probably best known for creating the P90X workout program. Originally he wanted to become an actor which is why he made the decision to move to Los Angeles where he chased is acting dream while making some extra money on the side as a stand up comedian.

As he always had a love for fitness he started to work out in the World Gym in Venice which is where some of the most well known professional body-builders of the time used to train, people such as Arnold Schwarzenegger for example. But wanting to stay away from the really bulky muscular look he chose to stick to more athletic workouts to work on his speed, stamina and agility.

He then decided to become a personal trainer and went on to train some very well known celebrities over the years. After he had created a few smaller workout programs in the early 00′s he went on to create the hugely popular P90X in 2004.

P90X is a kind of boot camp style workout program that people can do at home, it is pretty intense and is not for the faint hearted but it has proven to be extremely popular and sold an estimated 3 million copies from it’s release until November 2010. It is a mixture of cardiovascular, bodyweight and resistance training but also incorporates some yoga and kenpo karate into it. The mixture and variety of these workouts is designed to beat the plateau effect by using the theory of muscle confusion.

I think the reason PX90 became so popular was the fact that people can do it in the comfort of their own homes. They don’t have to pay for costly gym memberships and the only equipment you really need is a pull up bar and a set of dumb bells or resistance bands.

Following the success of the original workout program he went on to create P90X+ in 2007 which was designed for the people who had already completed the original program. P90X2 is going to be his next offering which is set to be released in late 2011.
